Quite a good model the conveyor. Fits in perfectly. 

I think I’ll call it finished now. Just a bit of tweaking here and there. 

looking really good Graham, my only thought, how shiny is the convayer up close ? in the photo it looks a bit too clean and shiny ! I imagine in real life they would be absolutely covered in coal dust  

Liking what you've done though, it gives a small diorama real 'presence'

Thanks Matt. I’ve given it a dry brushing with some rust and black acrylic which takes the shine away ( the photo doesn’t do it justice, it’s not shiny when looking at it really)

Ps, I think the shine is from the fluorescent light above that’s reflecting off the items in question.

Whist it does look good Graham, Matt is right in that anything to do with coal handling was absolutely filthy.  The hopper would be heavily coated with soot and coal dust, there would be black dust everywhere so, flourescent lights or not, it really needs to be dirtied up a lot more ………….IMHO !

I’ll make it look a bit more grimy, I’ve dry brushed black acrylic on to darken things up but I’m not sure what kind of weathering powder I should use. 

well the best weathering powder i've found for coal is real coal dust  
if you know someone who still uses real coal then get a small bag of dust. it will last you years

I’d thought about real coal dust but it will need sealing with something I think. 

Buy some cheap chalk pastels Graham - chalk, not wax.

Rub them on a piece of sandpaper or scrape with the edge of a craft knife to create a pile of whatever colour you need then just treat it as expensive weathering powder ………………….

You can buy imitation coal quite cheaply I'm told (but not here in my part of France !)

Thanks. I’ve got some imitation coal scattered around and glued down with pva. It looks ok, I might try out the chalk dust theory. Or do you think charcoal would be worth a try.
