I've lived in Nottingham all in all for 50 years and remember my dad taking me to the cattle market in the early 60's and always thought the buildings had a railway feel, I wondered if the railway which runs very close by once had sidings into the cattle market area.
I know there was a factory next door to the cattle market on Meadow Lane which designed and manufactured tracks and points etc (12 inches to the foot scale).

I've had a look on the old maps web site and it looks as though the building has always been 'refreshments rooms'. As you say the Nottingham and Melton Mowbray railway did pass by the corner of the site. However such sidings as are shown didn't reach as far as this building and there was once a goods shed adjacent to the line.

Could it be a UK version of the old American Rail Head where the cows had their own station David ?
Just a joke, ignore it at will.
Cheers.

So, no curly beef sandwiches on offer at the station cafe then…Quite possibly Allan. Cattle had their own station at Bordesley after all!
