I was wondering if it's possible to prevent non railway topics appearing on the "recent posts" page, the same as the humour section posts don't appear there.  I have no intrest in non railway subjects and it appears to me that there seems an excess of non railway material.

The humour section is actually still visible to all members but is done as a single post that members add thier jokes to.

To make non railway subjects invisible to some members can become administrativly  difficult as what you have to do is create a group of members who do not wish to see that sort of thread or section that can then become even more difficult as some would like to see some sections and not others so you would end up with multiple groups of members.

So it can be done but one has to take into account the amount of work Bob would need to do to set up and maintain it .

Also i think with a forum our size in any one day you usually only get one page of recent posts so its not that difficult to select what you want to see and ignore what you dont want to see if  one was having to wade through 6 pages i can see perhaps this would be more of a problem.

I think its fair to say all members probably have sections they are not interested in and ignore even model rail related ones .

As i said it is possible but i could forsee Bob ending up with an administrative knightmare as other members could then start requesting totally differant sections to be invisible to them.

At the end of the day all members are able to decide what to do read and what not to read and usually the thread tiltle gives a good indicator what the content is

I hear what you say, but I don't think it will happen.  This forum is unique in that we are more like a family pub gathering than a strictly narrow hobby focus forum.  I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but just that's the way it is.

Watch what happens when one of us gets sick or has some bad luck.    The charm of this forum is the caring and sharing on a personal level.  Most members want to know about that stuff as well as rail modeling, so I can see it staying in the Recents for some time to come.

I don't follow the Recents - I use a different strategy, mentioned ad nauseum by me before.  If you want to know how I do it, PM me and I'll explain.  If I go over it again in open forum, I'm likely to get 50 lashes with a frilled neck lizard.  :mutley

How would we be able to carry on without Tracy's recipes, Gordon's accidents, Doofer's garden, Australian spiders etc., etc.,.

Surely it's easy enough just to view the sections that interest the reader - the recent topics will be at the top.

The different sections have all, without exception, been requested by members at one time or another. They are there to be read or ignored. It's up to the individual.

The full expression is, "Fifty lashes on the Willy with a frilled neck lizard," but I was too polite to say it.  Probably better that you didn't experience it, Peter.

With the "frilly" at anything up to 95 cms long, it makes the "cat" look positively benign !!!

Now this sounds interesting, all though i dont know about me getting thou .

As for the topics not railway minded, i for one find it makes this Forum. I mean if we all spoke of just railways i dont and this is my own opinion but i think the Forum would not be like it is today, friendly, funny or whatever else makes it such a friendly family viewing site. Also would we all be involved in the show in September, i dont think so. We would be thinking we are just boring old fa..s and say sod it i dont want a weekend with this lot but nope we are game for a laugh on here and i think thats why we are all keen to meet up, besides if we was serious on here all the time how would Peter cope, he gets confused now, god knows what he belike otherwise :mutley. He already has Sam,s number of layouts beat, :thumbs.

Anyhow the esy way round it is, dont read them, sorted.

We have to have something to stop us going nuts, i mean at work we have distractions and that helps you get through the day. On here if your having a fuzzy day or feal s…t then to be able to come on here and talk about it helps you get back on track, IMHO.

Anyhow thats my view, who disagree,s and then we have a tear up about it  and then we friends later, Love it :mutley

Phill
Also many of us have had some really bad times, myself included and if it was not for the Forum helping me through it, i reckon i be still ill, also this Forum helped me stop smoking a while ago. By the way Bob have you stopped yet?

Ah.  The RN stopped using those in the 60s.

I like the non railway topics - they make this forum special. And I have learned more about Australian fauna than at school!
