Recommendations

Hello again everyone,

Yesterday I finished weathering some wagons with the airbrush and had cleaned it. Now every couple of times I like to clean the needle packing which is a tiny little piece at the front of the airbrush which the needle passes through (I think it has something to do with paint flow). Anyway when I was putting the airbrush back together I found that this little piece wouldn't screw back in and then I realised that half of it had snapped off when it was being unscrewed and was now stuck inside the airbrush, therefore blocking the airbrush rendering it useless.

This is the same double action airbrush that I used in my weathering a loco video (a Richpen Apollo 112-B) now this airbrush was second hand when Dad and I got it off one of the local modellers for $70 but the challenge is that this particular airbrush in brand new condition from the US is $400 (US) which makes it close to $500 to get it here. That is way to much for me to afford so I need something a bit cheaper but will still do a good job.

I am looking for a double action airbrush, I don't really mind if it is siphon or gravity fed. I had a quick look at ebay where you can get new airbrushes for around $30-$40 but they are a company called Vogue Air which I have never heard of and don't know the quality of the airbrush. My price range is maximum $200 so for that I could get an Iwata eclipse, revolution or a neo with that price (I am not factoring in the new air hose cost). I am mainly looking at doing weathering with it but eventually might get into respraying locos and stock as well.

I would just like to know what you people have and what recommendations you have.

Cheers Connor.

I recently got a Paasche airbrush set after my Badger stopped working and I couldn't get spares.

Not sure if the link is exactly what I got but it is double action and comes with three different sized needles.  I have had a chance to use it a couple of times and it does work well.

I wouldn't buy the cheapest, nor would I buy the most expensive - this seems to fit somewhere in the mid range.

Thanks John, I do actually have a single action paasche airbrush but I find its a bit hard to rest anywhere because I can't put it in the holder being siphon, but in saying that you can paint a lot with it at a time and it's quick to clean.

Hi Connor,

I bought a complete set similar to this but with syphon feed: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1-6hp-Air-Brush-Compressor-Dual-Action-Gravity-Airbrush-Spray-Gun-Kit-Paint-Art-/121203450356?pt=AU_Art_Supplies&hash=item1c3849e1f4

Check out all theothers on ebay :

http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=airbrush+kits&_pgn=2&_skc=50&rt=nc

I find the one I have is ideal for weathering and respraying. A bonus is that if it ever gives up, they are not expensive to replace.

Cheers, Gary.
