Hi David,i know shorts are a right PITA but have you tried power direct to the loco to rule that out.If ok try and backtrack as much as possible, have you used track pins etc,try a magnet to find any loose metal bits.If it worked this morning i bet the answer is staring you in the face.Good luck and do keep us informed.

Ive just put the loco on the track as a rolling chassis only and it moved a whole inch beforeba spark flew out of the worm gear tripping the short circuit protection on the controller. Track pins are used and none foul any of the locos amd none lying across the track

Problem solved. After fearing taking the motor apart there was a dog hair fluff build up  amd build up of oil on 2 u shaped bits of metal and it was arcing out. A quick pull out with tweezers and she runs faster than ever now. no more slow mo coco diesel electric class 37

Stop grooming your dog with your locos and buy a brush!

G'day,

Those motors are very easy to strip down and tidy up. If ever doing this, just make sure the wheel sets go in the way you pulled them out ! I have performed maintenance as such on a few of my old Triang/Hornby locos and after a clean up, they run like a dream, especially considering some are over 35 years old ! Spare parts for such motors are still available from -

Peters Spares - http://www.petersspares.com/ or

East Kent Models - http://www.eastkentmodels.co.uk/ or

Abbiegails - http://www.hornbyspares.com/ , just to name a few !!

Cheers, Gary.

G'day gary Thanks for the advice and i will certainly bear those sites in mind when it comes to spares being needed. Im not sure how old the loco is but at rough guess probs older than me lookin at the box. But it was a bargain at 15 quid for the condition it was in
