Lovely Concrete
Hi, i am Paul Francis a director of the Airfield Research Group Ltd a charity who has also been trying to build a railway layout since the 1990s. I am an archaeologist by trade and I am the author of the Emergency Railway Control Centres report published by Historic England. https://historicengland.org.uk/images-books/publications/20th-century-air-raid-precaution-railway-control-centres/My main modelling interest therefore is OO-scale military and concrete and i have been unsuccessfully been trying to building a simple and small layout in my cellar. I scratch-build the buildings from plasticard and other plastics which I scrounge from a mate. My main problem at the moment is dust and warping plastic. I quickly took the picture below which is quite poor but it gives you an idea of some of the structures I have built thus far. There are two levels divided by a wall. The station is not very British, looks more like something out of Latvia, which it is (but it does have a working station clock), the signal box is based on one of the Crewe ARP boxes, there is also an air-raid shelter out of view, an electric sub-station (far left) and a emergency railway control centre (also out of view). There is a three-bay, 2-d factory in the background with a narrow platform and a narrow-guage railway running along it to serve the factory. I am also building a Bloodhound missile site and an aviation fuel storage depot plus one more station but all of these are future projects.
I must say, the illustrated layouts on here are superb and thanks for having me (so to speak).

apologies for the poor pic
All the best,
Paul

Lovely looking station buildings and an interesting aspect of the hobby.
Welcome aboard… once you've found your feet please do set up a layout thread and we'll do our best to encourage you onwards.
cheers
Marty
