Sol's tag-line says 'Part-time Moderator'…..and he's near full-time modeller by the look of it, I wonder if he sleeps?

Another layer of Peco over Australia, well done, Sol.

Unfortunately Doug, things like gardening & housework tend to stuff up a day of modelling. Off to sleep soon 12:15AM now

After wiring it up in the lounge room, took it to the layout room, sat it in position, plugged in the 4 wire unit & everything worked first time..

That's great Sol and I know the feeling.  I did a similar thing with a vacuum cleaner a few years back although it only had 3 wires……………:roll::roll::roll::cheers

Joking apart, does the 4 wire "plug" feed everything - tracks, lights, points etc. ?  If so, a handy "module" because, as has already been said, this could easily be a free standing "plank" type layout.  It certainly has enough interest and operating potential.

The 4 wire plug provides DCC power, of which one wire is the common return for LEDs & solenoid power.

Since Marabost was built & we had some running sessions, recently even though I cleaned all running tracks, I did not shift all the stock out of storage to be able to access those tracks underneath Marabost , etc  & sure enough, two trains ran into problems.
A discussion with the crew, saw me remove the top station of Marabost, alter a lot of storage tracks  and below is the new Marabost.
I better update the main D&S thread with the new overall plan.

a lot of work still to be done before trains run into it.

The blue backboard hiding some storage is very easily removed.

Do I take it hidden sidings are not a good idea Sol ?  I did wonder about access for cleaning and (heaven forbid) derailments ………..

Hidden sidings are OK Peter if one can access them easily & those underneath the old Marabost, etc were not that easy to get to.

All sleepers gaps filled in, solenoids installed , now the fun part - the wiring …..

platform to be to the left of the passenger train

with turnouts of an angle of 12°, it is hard to get all tracks parallel to each other & the back blue backboard considering the angle of the entry track.

G'day Ron,

So the layout here has been reversed, or I should say, turned up-side-down… So now, where Marabost was, is now the storage sidings and where the storage sidings were, is now Marabost….?? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Cheers, Gary.

Gary, behind the upper Marabost was & still is upper storage called Newton Abbot

underneath Newton are three storage tracks  plus  the track on the left is the mainline

the storage from the other end

Newton Abbot on top & underneath two tracks for Bruton & one track wherre the passenger train is St David.

New Marabost to the left of the blue divider
