Colin, from the NCE site
https://ncedcc.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201045719-CP6

as they are for Powercab, I can only assume the wattage is a lot lower than 18W and reading between the lines, they are 10W or close to it keeping the max current down to 1A, not the 1.5A the 18W would use.

And in the Power cab case, I would omit the 5w globe as well.

Thanks Sol,

From the lamp specs on the NCE site, the spare globes are 12.8V, 0.97A so that makes it 12.4W, 13.2 Ohm.

The challenge now is finding suitable lamps and lamp holders locally.  I had to cobble together a festoon holder made from an old UK fused plug for the work so far.

Would 3 * 12V, 0.3A bulbs in series work? The Bulbs and holders for these are ready available

Colin, not in series as the circuit would still be 0.3A but in parallel giving 0.9A - two under the layout & one on the facia.

My post #238 with the circuit has the bottom LH corner diode drawn the wrong way, they should all point the same way. plus I had input & output reversed…..
I have corrected it with an updated version, thanks Colin for pointing it out.

Thought everyone would be interested to see one of the trains from a recent operating session on the D&S. The station is Marabost.

That looks nice Connor - great crisp detail on the loco and I like the livery.

In the background, there are some bauxite coloured steel wagons high up - how many levels does the D & S have or are those on a shelf ?  I didn't realise the D&S was multi-level …………………

Petermac - I took more photos to show the levels
This is going up hill to Charde & downhill to Durston
   Durston is storage underneath Charde

sorry for focus

climbing upto Newton Abbot
this is behind Watchit Gravel loader

Watchit in the foreground & Newton Abbot up high

Newton Abbot up high & Marabost lower down.

the tracks behind Marabost & under Newton Abbot are for Bruton storage.

Hi Sol,

Very good to see your latest.

One whole lot of stock you've got there, are you sure they're not breeding at night when you turn the lights out?

Colin, just counted what is on the layout so I will count again in a few days time to see if breeding has occurred

Locos sitting in the MPD = 7
Locos in stations & on trains = 18
3 rail cars - one single , one 2 car & one 3 car
10 mainline coaches for two trains
wagons 141   (with approx 30 underneath in storage not used.)

with 3 crew operate sessions, there are  14 train movements and on the normal 5 man crew 17 train movements - more shunting then.

THanks Sol - I'd no idea you had so many levels.

Looks like some tight access points, particularly Durston under Charde ……………………

It's surprising just how much added interest there is with multi-level operations.  Any idea what your steepest gradients are ?

Peter, the steepest is the Durston track 1:25     4% handled by diesels with 16 wagons easily though Heljan diesels take a bit more current as my overload detection audible unit starts to beep with them pulling 4 coaches up the grade.

The grade to Watchit is approx 1:40   while the grade upto Newton Abbot is about 1:45.

Thanks Sol - I'm aiming for a 1:40 or 45 but kettles don't have the pulling power of diesels.  Fortunately, any trains heading for the upper level won't be very long.

Hi Peter,

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier. It is indeed interesting to operate.

Don't worry Connor - I guessed it would be interesting to operate.  I think Sol has got all bases covered and I suspect, a good team around him to operate it all.   :thumbs :thumbs

If it were not for this darned virus thing, I could maybe pop over and have a go at it …………………………. :cool wink

Yes, it would be good for you to have a go at and meet you in person if this silly COVID wasn't going around, interestingly our state of South Australia currently has no cases (apart from new arrivals on Mercy Flights) but that doesn't mean we are letting the average Joe in.

Peter, my crew travel miles/kms ( between 10 & 35 minutes one way) to perform on the D&S and they get paid in tea/coffee & biscuits & in return they are allowed to make "comments" on how well the Dispatcher/ Train Controller performed in the session.
