Back in July on http://yourmodelrailway.net/view_topic.php?id=4112&forum_id=52&page=4    post #75, I described how I built some Private Owner vans for my printing firm.

Now I have taken Bachmann 10 ton vans like this one

De-buffered, added Kadee couplings, logo & new numbers & re-painted the roof

One more to do & it will give me 4 PO vans for the Printing Firm.

Owen, where individual letters  like MN&S   & D&S are OK if they fit in between ribbing but otherwise on a plate - that is how they did some here in South Aust Railways.

A variance from this

to this

The slight fuzziness a combination of Zoom plus Macro function.

We'll believe you …………………….it's often the same with me. :cheers

Nice and neat looking vans Sol.  What's the colour ?  Looks like a sort of blue/grey but it's smart. :thumbs

Another nice looking van, Sol.  :thumbs    I don't know if this helps, but rather than use the zoom/macro, I find I get better results to take the zoom off and stand back a bit, then crop the image down.

Worth a try?

Peter, the blue is Humbrol 109 WW1 Blue.

Max, did that, yes it is better just with Macro & cropping.

Trouble is with mine, it shows up the rough spots.   Fortunately, that van looks immaculate.  :thumbs  I forgot to say that I always use a tripod as well.  I didn't realise how many vibes I had until I got rid of them.

Close up to that van also shows blemishes but in operating, every operator is 10 feet away, well 2 feet at least!

I actually meant this colour Sol but I realise it's the colour Bachmann used.  Is it an ex fish van ?

Excellent looking work there Ron!
Gives me hope for the 50 odd old mainline wagons I have to convert.
Just a question, Probably been asked before!
Why do you remove the buffer,s.

Derek, I use the fact the buffers were needed due to 3 link & similar couplings. In fact the South Australian Railways had buffers until they changed over to knuckles like the USA outlines & then they were removed.
My private UK outline railway, the Devan and Summersett in using knuckles, also has no need now for buffers so they are slowly getting removed. ( It also means vans, etc, are closer together).

Dd, if you mean the bends/curves, they push back OK on 1st radius 371mm OK without body contact.

:hiRon, Thanks for the explanation. I forgot your railway was free lance  should have read your end caption.

Also the name of your railway Devan and Summersett should have clued me in

Looks like you're having a great time with your wagons Ron.  Wonderful not to be burdened by considerations of UK prototype.

Cheers
