H Class 371

Nice and tidy work inside Max

Interesting that the grey primer hasn't stuck to the moulding, I have to prime Chris wagons soon, so the grey primer that you used is out !

Hi Brian.  Even where I've filed it, it still won't stick.  John Eastaff suggests PVA glue, but as a joint which can be prized apart when required.  The resin seems very cheesy and oily.  The CA glue works OK and the grey primer hangs on enough to paint over.  I'm waiting until I finish building before I start doing the final paint job as the primer scratches off while I'm working.

Lovely looking tram on that link Brian.  Does it do "circulars" or just "out and back" ?

Further progress.   The decoder, reed switch, main switch, speaker and plug have been installed.

Here is the underside, showing the speaker hole, reed switch and main switch.

The 8 pin plug is for plugging in the headlights, interior lights and pantograph flash LED.   The magnet is what's called an earth magnet.  They are very strong.  I removed one tie (sleeper) and stuck it in with Blu Tack; otherwise it clamps itself on to the underside of the SPUD.  On the layout it would be glued in and ballasted.

So far, so good.

The reason paint often does not stick to resin kits is the film of silicon that comes from the silicon mould.

Before putting a resin kit together all the parts should be washed in warm(not hot)soapy water. Dish washing liquid is ideal.
Lightly scrub each part with old tooth brush and Solvol soap as it is washed also helps a lot. Then rinse in plain warm water and let dry.

When the model is together repeat the above again as the oil from fingers(skin) will often lay on the surface of the resin and cause paint not to adhere properly.

Or the model can be washed in a plastic prep solution and let dry.

I prefer wash in warm soapy water and T/brush & solvol soap method.

I always wash all models be they plastic, resin, metal  before painting.

Plastic prep solution  is available from any good hobby shop.

Isopropyl alcohol can be substituted for the plastic prep.

Electronic shops sell Isopropyl or chemists sell it as rubbing alcohol.

Isopropyl alcohol is also a very good track cleaner.

 Cheers
 Ian

OK  I ordered the pantograph on 22 July from http://www.eurorailhobbies.com - it's still on back order.  Does anyone know of another supplier of pantographs?  I've sent order queries, but they just keep saying it's on back order.  I tried Googling pantographs without success.  Maybe I should add some other words.  I might send a message through the ether to Guru Sol who can often come up with something from left field, from cyber space.  "Guru Sol, Guru Sol . . . is anybody there?"  :thud

Thanks, Sol.  I've ordered one from http://www.eurotrainhobby.com/product_info.php/Tram-pantograph/BeKa/cPath/1_84_88/products_id/1783?osCsid=2skrgfuv6gajbm3jeo2n1c3lv3 They were a bit funny to deal with, but they might be alright.  They certainly had the panto I wanted. :thumbs

Yes, Brian.  There will be a HI blue LED on the panto which will fire via the glass reed switch underneath or by Aux 1 on the decoder.  The DIL switch underneath is to change modes.
