Just had a look at that Brian and tried to use the two demonstrations he has for the Control Panel and the Web Builder but neither of them work.

That is another usable solution Martin especially as they have changed the rules now .  It may well be worth looking at

Yes the photo is visible fine.

My only concern with that is as it is a free setup they are within their rights to change the rules again and again if they wish and you are in no position to complain

If you host your own you are in charge of the rules

I think you will find that the space is 100MB Martin, at least that's what it says under the photo album I have just created in a new group. How do you get the picture into the post as you have done above?

I had a look at your 'Change to 100 GB' Martin, great stuff. I see it is a rolling on process so I would think new accounts will get upgraded last. I also see that it says this : 'Unique image locations (in other words, a URL that will link directly to a photo within your Group) ' that looks good too. It also links OK. Thanks for the heads up on getting the pictures on here.

Sighs of relief for a lot of people at that news Martin.

YES! :thumbs
Thank goodness it's back up and running again.
I didn't fancy having to reload all my forum images to my own web space or another provider. Although I would have done that if Fotopic had gone for good!

Sigh of releif here:thud

Visible again here as would be expected from the comments above.

I note there is so far a very short and terse apology pretty well hidden away but worded to act as a holding statement and promising more "soon".

Thanks for changing the heading Bob - I personally think there is a lesson here in posting information as fact that you do not actually know to be true.

I was disapointed to read (through the link that Gwiwer posted) that the source of that information came from another forum and from one of our members as well.

Idle speculation about companies going bust in the current climate is a bit reckless…

Yes Chris, I absolutely agree - speculation can wreak havoc in the business world, particularly in these difficult times !!

Being in the "front line" as it were, do you have any feedback yet on what sort of a "season" the model rail manufacturers have had ?

I know China is starting to panic and I think I read somewhere that one of the railway modeling suppliers had gone down.  I wonder if the big boys in our hobby are managing to keep on a relatively even keel.  Heaven knows, it must be tough for all in business (I'm so pleased I don't have those headaches anymore) but, with Christmas being a busy time for "toys", I wonder how much of a draught they've felt this year.

With regards to fotopic I recived the following email this morning….
On Friday 2nd January 2008 photo sharing site Fotopic.net suffered a
core equipment failure while upgrading the server and network capacity.
As a result of this the Fotopic.net website was unavailable from
approximately 9am on Friday 2nd January.

Despite our best efforts to resolve the situation the gallery service
remained unavailable until approximately 10:30am on Monday 5th January
2008.

As a result of this outage we are examining our hosting capability and
contingency plans, but wish to assure customers that Fotopic.net has
not ceased trading and will be enhancing its services during 2009. No
data or images have been lost during this time and all systems are back
to normal.

We apologise for the situation which was ultimately out of our control,
and would like to thank customers for bearing with us.

Hope this answers a few questions. ;-)

It does indeed Dave but it's a great pity that they couldn't have got an e-mail out earlier somehow that explained the situation.

That's the same email I got from them too.

Pity it's 12 months too late!

It's amazing that sometimes we read what we only expect to read. I must admit I didn't notice the dates until you pointed it out.
