Hi, Nigel, the coaches are the original Hornby couplers but the locos have NMRA couplers I got from gaugemaster. I can't remember what brand, I use gaugemaster because it is not to far from where I live the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.

Hi Patrick,

Not sure what an NMRA coupler is, NMRA gives the standard for the height of the coupler from the track. Did you mean NEM sockets and KaDee knuckle couplers?

Hi Patrick,

That's a tension lock coupler with NEM prongs to fit it inside an NEM pocket. That's why the stock runs through your S curves and accommodates abrupt changes in gradients. You may have issues if you switch to Kadee or similar knuckle couplers. Or even fine scale tension lock couplers that are a lot slimmer.
