Fantastic vegetation Marty (and I wonder if everyone else has remembered this is in "N" gauge?) and those clouds are beautiful Mike.

Thanks Kev, I'm relying on you gentlemen from Wales to pull me up if I get it too horribly wrong.

I've been watching this diorama with fascination, Marty. Certainly no need for us Welshmen to pull you up on its lifelike qualities, I keep remembering what's at each side of your photos and then realise that I'm thinking of real scenes I know.

For a modeller who's living on the other side of the globe, you have fantastic "local knowledge", Marty, a real sense of what's required to portray the atmosphere of this part of Wales. Well done "bach", well done.

I really like your diorama, which has come on a treat and it has been good to see how you have tackled all the problems along the way. I think the vegetation looks superb and very realistic.

For the clouds you could try the following method which I used quite successfully in N gauge. I painted the back scene light blue and then I used a tine of white primer spray paint, which i applied very lightly and slowly built it up - it looked quite effective.

I found some pictures to illustrate the effect you can achieve using the 'spray can' method. may be an idea?

Thanks Bob(K).

The spray can method has been on the radar but I thought I'd try painting with acrylics first as I had paint and brushes.

I've since bought new brushes and sponges  to see if it was the tools rather than the craftsman  :lol::lol:

I'm going to give the painting another go, but at some time I plan to test the spray can :thumbs

Thanks Phil,
I've haven't got any photos yet but I've added a backscene of trees … and I'm really pleased with the look.
Still bashing away at the bridge, the last retaining wall is now in place and the underside walls are taking shape.
More soon.

I've just spent a good few minutes studying the vegetation on you diorama Marty and I have to say it looks really, really stunning.  It could be the real thing and I'm in awe !!

How you manage to achieve such high standards, I'll never know but I'm very happy to watch and try to learn - absolutely great !!

The Bridge – complete!!!?

The builders, having managed to convince farmer Jones that they weren’t poaching trout from his part of the river and therefore keep their contract, have been working steadily away and have finally finished the rail bridge over the Afon Teifi.

The list of things still to do is getting shorter but includes (in no particular order):

Wiring up the track,
Ballasting,
River “water”,
More trees and undergrowth and fallen tree branches,
Fences,
Telegraph poles,
Lineside telephone hut,
The station approach footpath,
One side and top of the Altycefan road bridge (this is next)
Station accessories and people.
Maybe a sheep or two.

… and I’m still having fun…

Anyway…

Some photos showing the current state of play were quickly taken in the morning sunlight before heading off for work.

Think bridge and landform when you look at them and remember, this is N scale.

Lush vegetation along the river banks is finding the brickwork no obstacle to world domination.

… and further upstream beyond the bridge is wild country.

The early morning light casts shadows over the retaining wall protecting the occupation bridge entrance.

A couple of rocks under the wheels of Farmer Jones’ tractor hold it in place on the cart track along the bank above the river.

The first of the upright Willows is in place on the other bank.

… and, because this is a railway, not just a bridge, an empty milk wagon behind 1472 on it’s way to the Green Grove milk factory.

Suggestions and comments welcome as always. Hope you enjoyed them.

cheers

Thanks Sol,
It's a slow process but I'm getting there.
Some ballast, the fence and sheep, a few more trees in the background and a telegraph pole and that particular view will be complete.
cheers

That's great Marty, and Ron I love that picture as well.  Of course I cannot influence anybody but if I was allowed I would nominate that as the members choice!
