Dipping a toe in the NG pond

When I made the first one, I found the cab assembly kept coming apart at the corners, so decided to overlay the f'ord and aft faces with 10/1000" sheet to give a more positive joint, it seems to have answered nicely.

Whilst doing so I saw that the compass cutter left a neat raised imprint of the reverse side and reckoned that I could do imitation rivet heads. I had thought of buying Archers rivet transfers, but at £10 inc P&P to France decided not too!

I intend to insert a 3mm LED in the circular housing in the radiator.



The nicely curved roof panels are, in fact, trimmings from a DIY Venetian blind… [I have now managed to get the grille to align horizontally]

Allan, the roof is not yet stuck down, but on the previous model I used thick superglue. I left the roof loose until the end in order to add the glazing.

I'm not sure I should post the next pictures as Reg might have an accident, and he's a big boy now,,,,

The original Bachmann PLymouth has a G.O.W. headlamp, powered by being pushed in between the two halves of the split chassis. I wanted a headlight, and attempts to solder flying leads to the huge [comparatively] chunks of the chassis failed.

As my inadvertent scratching showed the chassis to be copper plated under the film of black paint, I scraped it back to a metallic surface. Then I fixed a resistor to a shortened leg of an LED, trimmed the other to match and arranged them so that the tails pressed against the chassis when the body was clipped onto the chassis….It worked, much to my surprise. If you intend to have a try at this, be sure to arrange things so that the correct lead presses against the correct polarity for for'd motion. [Don't ask…]

I'm way behind on "Chubber happenings" Doug so have been correcting the situation.

I do like these little locos but agree on the colouring of TP1 - it does look slightly embarrassed…………………..

Are the springs for TP2 simple cutouts or do they actually have leaves ?  They look the part. :thumbs

I'm also delighted to hear you've bought an airbrush outfit.  I've had one for about 3 years but, until earlier this year,  was afraid to use it.  Whilst there's a lot to learn, they do make a fantastic job.  You just have to forget they cost real money and you don't get to eat the contents first …………..  Good move to buy it in UK rather than France - I did the same, for the same reason !!

Also, an ingenious solution to the headlight.  Attached wires between chassis and body can be a right pain ;-)

The springs are in fact laminated from 3 layers of 10/1000" plastic card, but as I discovered when I undid them from the cylindrical former the next morning, the plastic weld had truly welded all three layers together!

MY A'Brush doesn't arrive until mid August as I've had t posted to a chum who is visiting later in the year. Now watching Youtube videos.

Isn't Youtube a great resource?

Nice work on the headlight, Doug.  :thumbs

Clever work. The LED headlight works in forwards gear but the not in reverse and the voltage is low enough not to blow the LED.


Must remember that one.
