Terminus Layout Station Plan

Hi Everyone.

I rolled back the plan paperwork & covered the baseboard in cork.

I will be using this as an underlay.
Its 3mm thick & is used under timber floors.
I was going to use Woodland Scenics but thought that 5mm was a bit thick. Its a closed cell type of material.

I put the paper plan down again & have started laying out some points to see how they looked.

Cheers.
Tony.

Hi Everyone.

Still working away preparing points for installation by linking switch rails, adding feeders, Isolating frogs etc.
There are about 30 points but I have most of them ready for installation. Was in bed ill for a week & that didn't help. Am away this weekend so that's more time lost

While looking at the plan overall the subject of reverse sections came into my mind.

The following is the main part of my layout.

I am now adding the terminus in the section indicated in the plan.
My inside bus wire is RED & my outside bus wire is BLUE.
As I leave the terminus by the top of the plan my inside bus wire is RED & my outside bus wire is BLUE but when I return to the terminus along the bottom of the layout I will create a short.

My plan is to make the double track between the RED  marks a reversing section fed through a Dcc Specialties Auto Reverser.  The only feeds to this section will come through the Auto Reverser.
Am I correct in my thinking on this or is there another problem that I'm not seeing.

Regards.
Tony.

I did exactly that with my layout, only with the other side of the Y.

Hi Peter.
Did you have any problems with it ?
I'm going to fit two auto reversers between the red marks on my drawing.
One will be fitted to each track so that a train can arrive & depart at the same time.

I know it probably wasn't the right thing to do, but I only used one unit for both tracks and I never had a single problem. It seemed quite happy to flip the polarity back and forth even with two trains going through the switched sections.

I was going to only use one reversing unit as well until I was advised on a Yahoo wiring group to use a separate unit for each of the two tracks. The reason given for this was there might be interference if one train was leaving the reversing section while another was entering at the same time.

Hi Everyone.

Its been a while since my last update but just to prove I'm not slacking off here are some quick photos showing track laying in progress.
After all Rome or Victoria Central wasn't built in a day or in my case a week, a month or a year :mutley

All these points & track have dropper wires soldered to them so every piece will have a power connection.

Cheers everyone :cheers

Hello Everyone & a Very Merry Christmas :cheers

Here are the latest photos showing the progress on my terminus.

The main track work is now laid except for the tracks leading to the turntable & a few sidings which I will do once I decide on the positioning of some of the buildings.

I have installed my Peco turntable.
It has been fitted with a Locomotech Motorizing kit which I tested using an old H & M Clipper Dc controller.
I can run it so slow that I can hardly see the turntable move. Very pleased with the result.

Every track piece & point has droppers fitted & Kadee electric uncouplers have been installed & tested at various places around the terminus. Here's the proof

Next job after Christmas is putting in the main power & accessory bus wires & connecting everything up. I also need to fit Tortoise point motors to all the points.

Finally here is a little roll around chair I made myself for wiring under the layout. Its made from a modified metal frame chair with the legs cut off & littler castors fitted underneath.

Have a Wonderful Christmas everyone & a Very Happy New Year.

Cheers everyone. :cheers:cheers:cheers

Rather like a mechanics car 'roll-under', and why not? You'll be spending a lot of time under the baseboard, so you may as well be comfortable. Glad you got the turntable motorising sorted!

Good solid progress Tony. I like your methodical approach to,it all. That peninsular is a layout in itself… In fact bigger than many a plank!!

All the best, Seasons Greetings and may your soldering arm never ache!

Still working away at it.

My track diagram hanging on the wall.

Couple of photos of a control panel I'm putting at the end of the terminus.

Busy preparing 34 Tortoise point motors at the moment. Soldering eight wires to each motor.
Twenty done so only 14 more to go. Then I have to fit them all.
Photo of some pre cut wires for the last 14 before soldering.

Long way to go yet but its all part of the fun :cheers

Yes wiring can be "fun"  I am glad 99% of mine is done - some signals still to go.
