Buying on E-bay?

I didnt really know much about this sniping until this thread but have been looking into it a bit today . While you can pay for the service there is a free basic service available from several companies . I presume they make their money from the adverts on the pages on which you prebook your snipe.

EBay might have started out as a fun thing to do but has long since become a huge international business.  When you look at it from that perspective any hint of fun, such as the thrill of the chase which some users describe, is sacrificed on the altar of profit and turnover.

I don't use eBay for items which could be better (and sometimes more cheaply) obtained elsewhere. It is useful for picking up the occasional item which is no longer available through retail channels or is perhaps in excellent second hand condition.  Plus the very occasional quirky item I would never have thought of looking for.
