A cheap way of getting into sound.  it's just a pity they chose that model and livery for the Class 37 otherwise I might have got my wallet out…………….:cry:

The Class 40 is a better selection by Hornby, not sure what the Class 47 will be like?

Ron,

Check out next month's Hornby Magazine (Issue 96 out 14th May) for some low cost ideas to improve the Hornby TTS Class 40.

Since they are similarly set up, you could use the same mods on the Class 37 too.

Kind regards,

Paul

Hi Peter
I bought an old Lima BR green Class 37 on Ebay and did a body swap. It looks pretty good.

A Class 37 in green is more up my street Bob - I'll keep my eyes open ………………..:thumbs:thumbs:thumbs

At the price of the Hornby TTS, it's another sound loco for less than the cost of the normal sound chip - plus, I'd quite like a Class 37 (the Class 45 is a bit too big for my layout I think). :hmm

I have two Vitrains class 37's fitted with the Hornby TTS sound chip. I found replacing the Hornby speaker with a Bass Reflex speaker greatly enhanced the sound. I fitted the speaker over the gear tower facing downwards. The only downside is that on the earlier chips the light wiring is the wrong way around, the red lights come on when going forward and the white light on when going backwards. This is easily fixed by swapping the white and yellow wires around
A good entry point for DCC sound!

Andy
