At last I have found what I thought I had lost [no, not my sanity…]

With all this 'Plankmania' going on and Gary starting a 'Dustrial one I looked for these [below] on my 'pooter. Gorn!  As I have 248 pages of photos on the YMR site I thought I'd never find them, but here they are, may well help with the plank backscenes, Gary.

Also, a useful little model which, at 1/8" thick makes a nice 'end of an alley' type filler. Print out the whole picture landscape, it should come out at A4 with half a sheet of white paper below it as it dates from me using matt photopaper to model with. Add your own nameboard.

It is a rather simple piece of kit, a piece of MDF pivoted to the baseboard at the far end centrally. This allows the board (sector plate) to swivel left and right, aligning the tracks. I use a rotary switch to put power to the individual staging tracks.




Jimmy's layout 'Operation Abyss' also uses a sector plate, see here :

My sector plate was remarkably easy and is still working so well.

The proposal is coming to fruition, although very slowly…

I pucrhased two Scalescenes kits earlier this wek, one being the low relief factory (for the warehouse siding) and the other is the arched bridge. I started on the factory first up to get an idea of size, or more so space required and what other extensions or buildings I can add to this narrow area. Work stopped on this as I'm waiting on a few sheets of 'clear transparency film' to print the windows on. Hopefully the film will be in my hands on Monday.

So, yesterday I started on the arched bridge, actually two of them. These will become a part of the scenery break to the fiddle yard/sector plate. These are not a difficult kit to put together, but the arch soffit cover layer must be the most awkward piece of paper to put in place, prior to the card going in on top. Anyway, I perservered and got the job done.

So a pic of the pair…



The wing walls will be added and/or modified once the layout gets underway. So no need to build these just at the moment.

One question I have been contemplating is a name for the layout…

Ok, to set the scene, the railway will be entering from under a road into a very grotty and industrial landscape. An overgrown, unkempt canal, old factories, chain wire fences, the cement plant, petroleum sidings etc, etc.

So, the name I have chosen is… 'Industry Lane'. ;-)

Hopefully be starting a new thread on 'Industry Lane', before this wekend, ends.

Thank you so much for this information, I appreciate your drawings and the youtube links as it all makes sense now. Although your method and the method used by Jimmy are slightly different they both work very well. My education is improving. I look forward to following your progress on Industrial Lane.

^ This is the stage we I'm upto as I'm waiting on the clear film to print the windows.



^ A close up of the base layer. The kit comes with a variety of door colours, blue, red, green, brown, black and also metal roller doors.



^ The two top story sections with the window sills added. Cutting the arched window tops would have to be the hardest task of the kit. I ended up using a 20 cent coin as a cutting template. The inside of the arch needs to be coloured with a felt tip pen.

So, that's where I'm at so far with this kit. :mrgreen:

It looks the business. I could imagine these arches to be very trying. I have tried similar on a warehouse kit but could not get the uniformity. You have achieved a fair result.

Your right Toto, these arches are not my favourite shapes to cut, especially through 2mm card (grey board). :twisted: In the pic with the arched bridges, there is a can of peaches in the top left hand corner. Luckily it is the same radius as the arches on the bridge ! :thumbs

Earlier I pulled the track out to give myself an idea of track placement on the boards. Everything looks it will fit neatly, although some minor changes will occur with the bridges, only to join them together tightly.

Anyway, here is a 3D rendition of what I'm aiming at.

It looks really good. What is the story with the short siding to the far right nearest the front ? It looks very short or is that just the perspective  that the picture has created.

I like the loading hopper as well. I think there could be a few creative challenges for you here as it is outside your normal comfort zone of the countryside. This will be very interesting to watch.

The short siding is only about 8" long. This enables a small shunter, a brake van or two wagons to be parked up awaiting for their next call of duty. As for 'comfort zone', I think this will be a little easier to create, as there is really less involved within the scenery.., I hope…! ;-)

 I`ve just done a catch up on your thread. It`s moving along quite quickly. I like your Scalescenes models, I will probably use some of their products myself one day??. The twenty cent coin template for cutting windows is brilliant. That still must have taken quite some time to do.

I like the tunnel mouth in the third picture Gary.  That would look good in model form.  Did you notice the strange spelling of 'museum' above the second photo…museam?  Dear oh dear, whatever next?
