Advantage / disadvantage of Pre order?
Hi All. There I am sitting in my armchair with my cuppa, when out of the blue, the postie delivers a parcel from Kernow Model Rail Centre . It feels like a Loco ? but I haven’t ordered a Loco ? very carefully I opens up the box and sitting inside is this GWR / BR late crest 0-6-0 Saddle Tank Is this a sign of “ Identity Theft†which I suffered after getting hacked earlier this year?? I better phone Kernow to enquire. So I give them a bell, and apparently I ordered the Loco April 2017 but, I don’t remember that, I ask would it be okay to return it? Sure they say.The Big Question is do I consider keeping it??? and using it on one of me planks or send it back. Best wishes Kevin

That should have brightened up the day. More shiny to play with (you can never have enough). I would keep it.

Pre-orders can be a bit of a trap. I ended up with two identical blue 2 EPB units because I pre-ordered one then forgot about it, and months later put another pre-order in. I can't blame Hatton's for fulfilling my pre-orders as the mistake was entirely mine.
The down side of pre-ordering is that the funds can be suddenly taken from your credit card without your knowledge - you have already pre-approved the debit.
The up side of pre-ordering is that you can be sure of getting the item you want, when particularly popular items may sell out before they hit the open market - that part is entirely unpredictable; items you think will sell like the proverbial hot cakes sit on the shelves and become discounted in due course, while other items you think won't sell disappear from the shelves before you can even think of placing an order. As an example, the very first run of Hornby's bogie B in BR(S) green sold out even as I was placing my order with Hatton's.

I do use the system to safeguard securing items I don't want to miss out on, although I received two pre-orders this week and have an Andrew Barclay due next month, so as Jeff says, the credit card can take a hit at times.
I have just one serious pre-order left now, but don't think Kernow will be getting the GWR steam railmotors on their shelves for a year or two yet!
Oh and Kevin, I'd keep that little saddle tank too.
Cheers,
Bill
