Hi guys.

Thanks to Alan for letting me join your community.

Ive been out of the hobby for probably a good 10 years due to not having room for a layout. I see a lot has changed in the past decade!

I hail from Ontario Canada and model in N-scale. I used to work for CP Rail where several members of my family worked or are still working there so I fondness of the railway and model railways comes naturally.

I enjoy making models but Im thinking of instead of plastic kits to maybe go with paper kits instead, or combination of both.

I spend most of my time in forums as a lurker but I am here to learn so hopefully you'll see more of me lol!

Hi Derek and welcome. As you're finding, there be plenty to see and learn here.

Enjoy the forum and come chat soon.

Bill

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

Thanks everyone!
Been offfline for Christmas and new years - also had to go to a new years wedding.

At the moment no lay out to show as we have a couple rabbits and a couple cats. I dont have a room with a door that i can use to build a layout yet lol. Had some in the past so still have all my rolling stock and locomotives, some buildings too. Cant find my power pack or track tho,

At this time im exploring the option of card stock buildings so will spend time on that until I can start laying track again.

The hobby sure has changed in the past 10 years.

A belated welcome Derek. I returned to the hobby after a 30+ year break and I really did notice the changes. The Club has been very informative to me and whilst I too lurk occasionally in the back ground I do follow most posts and sometime make comments too. Good luck with your card building. All my buildings are scratch built from card via the Scalescenes web site. Very good site and they cater for OO and N. Just download what you want (very reasonable prices) and print. Stick to card and away you go.

Hi Derek.

Welcome to the best model railway forum ever and welcome back to the hobby.

John :)

Oh, Dr Beeching what have you done?
There once were lots of trains to catch, but soon there will be none.
I'll have to buy a bike, 'cos I can't afford a car.
Oh, Dr Beeching what a naughty man you are!

Derek, have a look at Scalescenes' website.  If you go to this link and scroll down the page, you will find some free models to download to get you started.

Im hoping to find free kits or elements to create my own kits for now as my hours will be cut quite a bit as of Jan 22th.

Scalescenes DO have some really nice kits, as do other companies ive seen searching for kits. But due to my hours being cut I have to do things at the free level for awhile.

I have photoshop so Im able to create my own buildings (if I have to!) and have been having fun using PS to create a warehouse type of building the past few days. having fun but getting frustrated at the same time lol. Practice practice practice though.
