Hi!

I've just joined the forum, so thought I'd introduce myself.

My name's Jon, but I use the monicker 'bigbear' on all of the forums and groups I belong to, so I can meet up with contacts in all sorts of places. I'm 62, married, with grown up kids. I'm currently a sound and light technician for an academy school and also run an event management and recording company. Other hobbies include collecting sci-fi toys, anything to do with steam engines, real tractors, etc. I'm renovating a 1941 Allis Chalmers B, to working condition.

I used to have a large-ish OO gauge layout, but having had a 50 year break, (Hohoho), I'm now back with a compact (4'6" x 2'6") N gauge effort, based in the west country of the UK, between the end of the wars and the advent of Mk1 coaches. (because I was given some Mk1's and want to use them…). I grew up in Wiltshire, right beside the MSWJR line and my Gran sold tickets from her front room for the railway. I now live in Devon, so the layout is loosely based on bits of both areas, although I have resisted putting a tor at the back so far!

That's me! Looking forward to some enlightening exchanges.

Cheers for now,

bigbear.

Welcome to the site, I'm sure you'll enjoy it here the people here are very helpful.

:Welcome

I'm modelling Ludgershall and Collingbourne Ducis., I lived in the area 1963-1971 and have many family connections to, the MSWJR.

Now if your Gran was living in what is now number 54 High street in Collingbourne Kingston, She would have issued tickets to my mother(and my grandparents / aunts and uncles)  as Granddad was the GWR lengthman there  for some years. My mother being born in Aughton. From my notes the surname of the family selling the tickets, at least for a while, was Palmer..

Now I've finally started a model railway…I've inherited another…
