Lovely old world atmosphere

Fritz Osterthuns' very atmospheric Era 1 German layout and very informative webpages. Clicking on the pics moves to the next pic.

Some great photographs on there. I was especially impressed by the buildings and the way they have been included in the layout. I presume they are H0 kits but I can't find them mentioned on the site.

There's some really stunning modelling on that site Gene.

In my boat modelling days, the Germans produced some of the best models I've ever seen and their railway modelling looks to be of the same amazing standard.  Even allowing for the fact that it's a large country and so has a lot of modellers to pull on, standards are generally higher than I've seen from other European contries.  Maybe they are just very good at it or maybe they only publish the "creme de la creme".

Isn't that just superb! And I love the 4-4-0 with the 4 wheel tender: I want one!

Thanks for the link.

Hi guys, just found this toppic.
Thanks for your kind words.

As asked by some of you: indeed, my buildings are fore most model kits  from German origin (Vollmer, Kibri, Faller), but no one of them has not  been altered either in shape or size, but certainly all are touched by  the weathering-brush.

Platforms are made of balsa (shelve by shelve); most tunnels ae made of  styrofome after own desing that fits in to the landscape of Souther  Germany anno 1900-1920.
Trees are handmade (see the special subject on that).

At the moment I'm editing some video's I made lately of some of my steamers on the Cochemer Bahn.
The  latest was put on Youtube yesterday, concerning the DB 01 147 (Märklin 39010) with lots (I mean: LOTS!!!) of steam. Enjoy.
And Neil, if you click in the above link on the link of my name - osterthun.frits - you'll find all my movies, with some Era 1 models running as well, after your hearts content.

Kind regards,
Frits Osterthun

PS: Robert, did I answer your email as expected?
