Hello, a bit about myself. I am retired and have modelled for many years, since I was 10 years old, when my Dad bought me a Rovex Princess Elizabeth train set. I still have the loco and carriages. I have had many layouts over the years, mainly GWR as my father was a driver based at Old Oak until he retired. My main interest at the moment is super detailing Metcalfe buildings. I was never any good at scratch building. Hope I have a productive time being a member on here. Keep shunting, David

Hello David and welcome,

You have a long history with model railways and of course accurate advice from your dad regarding that most wonderful of railways. Do you still model GWR?

I started scratch building structures by simply drawing round the components of a Superquick building onto plastic sheet, then cutting it out, sticking it together and finishing and detailing in much the same way as you do with the Metcalfes. Simple and great fun.

Keep smiling,

Bill

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

Thanks Bill, I still model Gods Wonderful Railway. although I have down sized house recently so no layout. My Dad advised me all the while, although never modelled himself, as he used to say, why model when he had the real thing

A very warm welcome from France David.   :cheers

Super detailing Metcalfe kits eh ?  You'll be able to show us a thing or two about that I'm sure.

Enjoy yourself on here and we look forward to seeing what you do with the kits - plus of course, your layout.

Is Banbury still without a model shop since Trinder's closed?

Hi Nigel, yes we still have no model shop. I use a good one in Brackley, which is only 10 miles away

Welcome David from a very hot and sunny Spain.

They are a good bunch of chaps on here and have a wealth of knowledge - not that you are going to need it probably with your years of experience! I think we may be asking you for advice!
