I'm building up to my retirement next year so hopefully will get a bit more time for modelling. Im passionate about photography and in particular anything to do with scottish industrial heritage especially coal mining.
I'm currently volunteering with Wanlockhead Lead Mine Museum at weekends
My current model railway project very much in its infancy. It is going to be a 00 gauge cameo (diarama) of a small Scottish coal mine from around the 50-60's. Would love it to capture the sights and noises from my childhood, so it will be more evoking a sense of that time rather than a faithful reproduction of a particular mine It will sit in our study as a display with a cassette fiddle yard for operation times. I've only got DC at moment but toying whether its worth DCC to get sounds. I intend on building all the points code75 BH with smp track
Its a 145cm box which I've already built and messing with track plans just now. I'll do a seperate post about this, if thats ok.

I can see from your "mock-up" that we're going to be in for a treat - looking forward to watching it progress.
In the meantime, enjoy looking around here and ask anything you need to.

Good luck and have plenty of fun with your cameo layout. The mock-up's looking good :thumbs

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

Great ideas, thanks MattHi Dave and :Welcome Great looking Diorama coming together there. DCC would be good but also might be worth considering a couple of hidden built in blootooth speakers, then make up your own recording to give background sounds along the lines of Hornby's sound truck ? Add some lighting and you have a great atmospheric Diorama even when not running trains
Looking forward to seeing more :thumbs
Cheers

I also wondered about piping some steam in various parts from a smoke generator - either bought or scratchbuilt from e-vape
Long way off as my next task is to get on with the track building
