Just want to say hello.

Happy Easter to you all, just wanted to introduce myself, I have come to model railways bit late in life, as am 60 this year, and have only just started ( well Christmas actually ). I have spent a lot of time reading through various posts and have learned a lot from yourselves one article in particular from last April(2016) about which is the best controller to start with in DCC. All my equipment is from Hornby at the moment a double oval track with seven points, controlled by two Hornby decoders and a select controller, but it seems by popular feedback on this topic that there are better starting controllers available. Now here is where my lack of knowledge shows through. If I went for a different make of controller, would that still work with the Hornby points decoders or would they have to be changed. Sorry if this question sounds stupid, but have never been technology minded, this is all a new learning curve for me.

Hi Michael  :Welcome

Can't help with your accessory decoder question as all my points are controlled by 'wire in tube', but  I'm sure somebody will be along with an answer.

Will Hornby Point decoders work with any DCC controller?

Welcome to the club Michael. You could search the forum (top of the main page) for NCE Powercab as this seems to be the main controller members use, also you might be better off reposting in the appropiate section as you will probably get more answers than the welcome thread.

Hi Michael and welcome to our little corner of the interweb.

How are you and your railway getting along and have you found the answer to your decoder question?

How to see you here again soon,

Bill

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

Hi Michael

They should work as they are connected to the track / track bus - but to be sure check the documentation to see if they state they are NMRA compliant, if yes then they will work with any other NMRA compliant systems track bus.

Hi Michael,

Welcome to the club.

As long as those Hornby decoders are NMRA compliant they will work with any regular controller (a decoder is a decoder is…). That said, this is Hornby. Works with NCE apparently. See https://www.hornby.com/uk-en/forum/hornby-point-decoders-address-nce-power-cab/?p=1
