Hi,

The new issue of Model Rail (with a Voyager and a  Class 66 0n the front, and in a polybag) has a 6 page article on  weathering plus the booklet included with the magazine (hence the  polybag) is on rolling stock and I think has some good ideas.

Mine came from an independent retailer - WHSmith did not have it on their shelves!

The magazine article is written by a military modller and is quite  good, the colour of the banana van he did I think is somewhat dark, but  he explains the 'hairspray' method well.

In addition  Lifecolor have now issued a set of weathering (acrylic) colours in a set (of 6 colours) called weathered wood.

Its available from the Airbrush company, to whom I have no connection, other than a customer.

Here is a photo of the box; the pots each contain 22ml and are 42mm high and 32mm in diameter.

Yours peter.

I wonder why Model Rail does not include the booklet you mentioned in Australia ?? Unfortunately, we poor souls down under have to wait anywhere between 6 and 7 weeks for the 'current' issue to arrive on our shores, guessing that the current issue would be available in the first week of each month in the UK. Mind you, I do not subscribe, I purchase from my local Newsagent… I just picked up No.172 August edition yesterday, 20th September…!

Cheers, Gary.

Hi Gary,

I recieved my copy of October issue (174) with the booklet on rolling Stock detailing/improving as I subscribe.  Hence I don't wait the 6-8 weeks for it to arrive.  I was In the Uk last year when MR come out and arrived home to see it was exactly 8 weeks to the day when issued in australia.  I subscibed because they had a special to good to refuse.  not disappointed.

In that case, I'd better subscribe ! It does go to show how slow delivery of such magazines can be here in Australia, from our local distibutors to local newsagents.

To me, it's a clear case of "you get what you pay for".

Here in France, we certainly got the magazines quickly on subscription ………. but at a price !!!  I stopped all mine because each was costing me well in excess of £50 per year.

In the latest edition I have (no.172 August) they have the 'Special Offer' of 13 issues for 45GBP for outside UK subscribers. They are even throwing in a Scenery Set from Gaugemaster, worth 30GBP, but not generally eligible to those outside the UK due to postage costs.

Then I read at the bottom of the page, 'offer closes August 9'…

Cheers, Gary.
