This is my first effort at weathering some wagons for my next project.

I like the weathering on the wooden planks. A variety of shades with dirty coal rain streaks down the sides, looks really good.

However the rust is far too red/orange for my tastes (it may be the colour or light rendition on the photos) for me a dark brown for old rust works far better with a slightly lighter brown for newer rust.

Excellent wooden planking effects but I do agree with Nick about the rust colour. Just needs to be toned down a little by darkening with a bit of brown.
Better than my first efforts though, well done.
It is a big step to alter the state of a pristine wagon but once started you can't stop!

Love the planking - what a great job!!!  Given how good  that is, I suspect the rust colour has not photographed quite as well - but only you will know that.  Any chance of a guide as to how you did it all?  I have not ventured into weathering rolling stock, but want to.  If that is your first attempt you might be a natural!

Possible that the photo is not the best for the 16t wagon but it might be a bit too orange.Next time I do some weathering I will take some step by step photos.

That would be excellent if you could. Also what medium you are using to get those great effects would be helpful as well. We are all still learning.

Extremely good first effort . The trouble is with any photo it can look differant than the reality that said rust colour shading can vary vastly at the end of the day you do things how you want to.

Great effort … have never done weathering myself but will have to at some stage soon to gain that tired and worn-out effect for the period I am trying to create on my layout (still in construction) so may well be asking YOU for tips in the not to distant future  :thumbs

Excellent - thank you.  It would be great to see the process, even if you think it is obvious, or well known…. we all learn from each other and a skill you clearly have is worth sharing.  Looking forward to your next update!
