Extreme Weathering!
I'm sorry I haven't posted here for a while but, I have been busy. Here's the latest project to come off the bench. A bit of kit building with a difference!
I claim no originality for this idea as it has been done before. My inspiration came from Neil Rippley who is a member of another forum I use. It was his idea that gave me the inspiration for this project.
The brake van started life as a conventional Dapol (ex Airfix) kit with a few(?) modifications.
I'll post a picture and description of how it was done if anyone is interested.

Brian, in a word YES!
It will be a semi permanent fixture in the siding at the front of the layout.
OK, well, you asked for a how to, so, I'll just give a quick account of how it was done.
The donor kit was a Dapol, (Ex Airfix) kit, although you will have a lot of bits left over!
If you look at the picture below, the grey parts are Dapol and the white bits are my additions.
I used some Evergreen strips for the main structure and 1.5mm wide Microstrip for the cladding. Each piece is stuck on individualy being cut to random lengths.
The ends of the short pieces are cut in a random manor and even split with a scalpel.
I used 20thou brass wire for the handrails, The vac pipes were home made using 0.7mm wire wrapped with 5A fuse wire.
Instanter type couplings are fitted.
The interior consists of a couple of plasticard partitions and the stove. The stove is just short length of 5mm dia plastic tube with an old plastic buffer head for the top. the stove pipe is a piece of 2mm dia brass tube.
Nothing special about the painting. I used a mixture of Humbrol enamels and household emulsions.
I find that the matt black emulsion paints gives a much flatter surface colour than enamels.
The debris inside the van is a mixture of scrap Microstrip, and real burnt wood (matchsticks!) covered with some dark scatter to represent ashes. (a little bit of cigarette ash was also used!)
I also used a light grey matt enamel and "dry brushed" the burnt wood (plastic bits) to add some highlights.
Thats about it really. If any one wants to know anything more specific then ask.
Edited to add a couple more pictures
