The first tree ever to appear on one of my layouts & it will be at Charde.

Like the old movie serials that one saw on Saturday afternoons at the movies, this too will be a oncer-weeker production.

as it comes from the pack

The tree I have selected 4.5"/ 115mm high
some other brown & green paints, matt vanished. The base plate will not be used when it is finished.

How much are these kits each? (Approximately in English pounds).

Ian, when I purchased them 4 years ago, they had a price of A$29 but they were on special for half price.

Kernows have them at £10.40

That's an excellent looking tree Sol. :thumbs

You've captured that "I'm old and struggling to stay alive" look perfectly.  I like the open structure where there's obviously a branch missing at the rear - maybe got broken many years ago in a storm or just died back - and the "clipped" look of the remaining branches showing that new growth is a little hard to find. ;-)

Very typical of many a tree and a really good addition. :doublethumb

Thanks fellows.    I thought I may as well try a couple of other "new" techniques for me to see if I can update these two into something more realistic or suitable to be added to the layout.

the old toy trainset tree  & a actual sprig of something I was given a HUGE bag of.

I've tried 'naturalising' similar foliage and binned the lot, Ron.
Hope you have a better result.

I think your first tree is pretty good.
For personal preference, I would have kept it away from the backboard because of shadows but it looks fine.
Another couple of hundred and you'll have a forest.

I like the tree, in particular the use of light coloured foliage on the upper areas, which works very well. I will give that a try with future trees that I make.

What kind of glue did you use? I have found it difficult to get the foliage to stick with these kits

Bob, initially, clumping held on with PVA - which I brushed onto the branches - let it go tacky then pushed the tree into the container of clumping as per the video on the website then hair spray for the smaller & different colours then finished off with a spray of matt varnish after all the glue has dried.

I have started a larger version of the same type of tree in which I painted the branches with PVA and immediately sprinkled on fine foliage. Then a coat or two of hair spray & will follow up with clumps held by a clear contact glue.

Thanks Ron, maybe I am not letting my glue set for long enough before adding the clumps.
