I have not done much card building but this is a starter project. It is a German tram from the BastelBogen on line site (free downloads A few snags in building, the chassis was a little too long for the body to fit and the bogie frames did not line up with the bogie pivots but as a first try it gave pleasure and showed how important accuracy in cutting and scoring is.

Thanks for viewing and commenting, am busy with a 1904 West Ham Type A Car, will post pic later, the original kit from TLRS is in 4mm but it is too small for me so I blow them up to 8mm using 300 gsm card, seems to work ok.

Hi Owen sorry for being slow returning message.  Some photos would be nice.  Did you intend trying modelling kits made of  brass or white metal.  As some of the chaps with YMRC have 12v elec motors fitted to their trams and run them on track.  I dont  know the gauge members model in,  Ask the members any questions you request

My model railway gauge being 00 4mm 1.76 , Control by AC DC DCC  Locos Steam Elec Diesel  Sorry a little lost working with Tram,s.

Enjoy Forums

Best of luck from South Wales U.K.

Hi Noviceman, thanks for the interest shown, no, brass and white metal are out of my budget and now with the exchange rate going up everyday it make it very expensive, also the poatage and if it is not insured you will not get it. At present I will sick with static models but have seen on utube card bodies on running chassis which looked good. Scale sizes, 4mm is approx HO so to double up would bring it to 8mm to the foot or approx O gauge. Speak to you again.

Hi Owen,
Welcome to the asylum.
I've not had a lot to say recently so have not been on the board. Nice to meet a new tram afficionado.
Have a look at these:-

The trams are from Brussels Paper trams at :-
  http://www.cafe.umontreal.ca/~dany/brussels/photo/sites/papertrams/
and there are several more available.
Scale varies so check out what you are building. Also if you go to 7MM gauge you can get motors to fit and have a fair weather garden tramway. You will also be able to get off the shelf scale buildings.
The lock up businesses in the top picture are freebies from Scalescenes. Get the 00 version and scale up by multiplying by 1.75
It might be worth printing out a test scale on your printer as errors in both lateral and verticle scale can creep in.
Meantime enjoy your moddeling. Just realised that the Scalescenes freebies
http://scalescenes.com/townscenes/
are correct in all dimensions so print and enlarge to check your printer.
Regards
Jim

Hi Owen
Can you give the webpage where you found the model.
I don't speak German and the site has no English translation available so I don't even know where to start looking.

Jim

Hi Jim, the site for the tram model is bastelbogen online  the site has a lot of trams, locos, old lorrys, the Adler loco and coaches also an old loco Postdam. I have made 2 of the Brussels trams during 2015, nice little models, I think they were not up to scratch so they went into the bin where all bad trams etc go. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Hi Jim, I just had a look for the site for that tram but cannot get there now (dodgy internetmodem) but will find it and give you details, I seem to remember on the right hand side of the page there was a list of dates for journals each one covered a different subject, if you can get to that and click the date it will take you to the page with a particular suject.

Hi Owen
You said I have made 2 of the Brussels trams during 2015, nice little models, I think they were not up to scratch so they went into the bin where all bad trams etc go.
I found that they are acceptable as static models but you do need a little practice first.
I have a load of sites which I have collected stuff from but not built. Several Japanese trams and various bits and pieces from several companies. By far the best are from Elro but these are commercial and you seem to be stuck for funds so I will only put the address up if you want it.
Below are:-

Wee Baldie (Glasgow 1089)

My BEC Glasgow Coronation and Wee Baldie in front of the Elro permenant way car. Yes! They are both card.

The Attachmets are Kyoto Trams but are not much more than folded up boxes. I do know that te dimensions are correct so you can use them as practice pieces.

I'll try the link you gave and get back to you.
Regards

jim

PS Looks like I can only upload one attachment so I'll get back to you on this.

Hi Jim, tes being a pensioner without a pension does have it's problems but we make do, I have bought a few Pete Watson trams from TLRS in UK but have not yet completed one, there are a lot of sites with freebee's that I have downloaded but it still costs to go to town and have them printed. Do ELRO send hard copies in the post when you buy or are they downloads?

Hi Owen
You say,

it still costs to go to town and have them printed.
I have no idea about the cost of printers in S.A. but here in the UK the snag is the INK which costs more than gold. Now the way round this is to fit a "Bulk Ink" system. I use one and the ink costs about £3.50 for four 250cl bottles and is actually cheaper than the postage. I have been using the last set I bought for nearly a year and I STILL have at least one refill from it to go.

Elro do pre-print kits including window glazing so the address you need is:-
Hillside Films & Elro Kits 6 Ash Grove,        Ramsey,   Isle of Man  IM8 3HT   01624 813355

I have an email address but I got it from the instructions for a kit so I don't know if it's current but you can try it:-
hendry@hilsidefilms.co.uk

Hope this helps.
Still got to try the bastelbogen-online.de link.

Back to you later.
Regards
Jim

Hello again!
It's now "later" and I have 5 more trams in the collection

This is a Nottingham tram issued as publicity "freebie" but it realy is awful. I can't even get any actual measurements but it is "N" gauge so at least you can get some sort of scaling up from it.

Comes on a single A4 like this

If you want it to practice on for scaling and possible upgrading I'll put the .PDF up.

Elro send out cards like this:-

Best I can do as this is a commercial enterprise.

Hope this helps
Regards
Jim.
