Model railway at a new level!
Model Railway at a Big ScaleThe Border Steam & Oil Club's Easter rally in Leneva is worth a visit. The video shows some of the many petrol and steam driven engines. The sound is amazing and the smell of exhaust fumes remarkable! OK, the video doesn't come with the smell!
The Wombat Gully Tramway consists of a 400 metre loop, a yard and assorted buildings. The gauge is 18 inch (457 mm). The station building is the shunter's cabin from Bandiana, just outside Wodonga. The way and works gang shed is an original VR ganger's shed from Beechworth. The engine shed came from a Geelong quarry. The two Victorian Railways signals came from Everton. junction on the former Beechworth and Bright lines. Rolling stock is even more varied, most of it being built from bits and pieces. The petrol-engined locomotive is called WOMBAT. The original steam loco, ANNA a 0-4-0 is currently undergoing major maintenance. The second steam locomotive is No. 3, BILL ODGERS. This is a 2-4-4T. The boiler came from a steam tractor and the steam engine came from a mine winch. The two bogie carriages were built in the late 1970s, many of their fittings being salvaged from carriages to be burnt at Junee. The bogies came from the former SECV 20-inch gauge briquette tramway at Yallourn. (Information based on an article from the 'Light Railways', Issue 188)..
