Loyalty reward heads-up

Needing to replace an aging Tomtom sat nav I did a bit of homework, I Googled and chose a mid-range 'Go Essential 5" ' model and went to Halfords in Plymouth to buy one at £179. The shop was awful, the demo model was broken, and after asking for help I waited nearly 15 minutes before walking out and going to Currys, whose web site promised one in stock.

Another 15 minute wait to be 'assisted' by an assistant who after faffing about with her Iphone and a computer, searched cupboards only to tell us the computer was telling porkies and they did not have one.

Grumpy Douglas returns home, and decides to download the latest up-dates for his old 'Start 25'.  Wow!

The new model I wanted, together with some more expensive ones, were being offered as a loyalty bonus to current users at 20% discount so got a £179 sat nav for £143…Result!

So, if you are a Tomtom owner with the account you need to update maps, and are thinking of getting another or upgrading, have a look.

That came up trumps for you Doug.  :thumbs

I too have a TomTom - not sure of the model but it's getting on now.  Whenever I use a "new" road, it keeps telling me to "turn left, right, sharp turn ahead or, more frequently, recalculating" - almost anything to get me out of the field it thinks I'm in !!!

I did think of updating the maps but someone said the map update was around 2.2 gig and the built in capacity was only 2 gig.  The result, when he updated his, was it selected a suitable country to delete the maps for in order to get the update installed.

The "suitable country" it chose to delete was UK !!!  It also took around 3 years to download the update …………………..

I think, on balance, your £143 was well spent.   :cheers

Interesting to hear UK shop assistants are learning from their French neighbours.  Here, as you'll remember, we're not customers, we're people who interfere with their shelf stacking etc. ………..but don't get me started about "service" in France !!!

Well, if you are up for a new model, as long as you use the update site, you should find the offer in 'My Drive Connect'

Yes, and don't fotget the two hour lunch break at Bricomarche just when you only need two more screws to finish a job….
