Bye-bye Bisto.....

After a run of ill-health Bisto recently tested positive for cancer and we were advised that at 15 years of age it would be kindest to have him put to sleep.

At the surgery the next morning I held him in my arms during the proceedure and I felt his heart stop beating.

We had him cremated and on 16th December, our Golden Wedding Anniversary, we scattered his ashes at Wembury Beach, one of his favourite places. It was a bright sunny day with a making tide and a gentle off-shore breeze.

Goodbye, little soldier.

Oh Doug, I feel for you & Shelagh.

I recently had my cat of nearly 17 years relieved of her pain & I am still waiting for her sit beside me watching TV !

So sorry to read this Doug and our thoughts go out to you both - you'll be lost without him, particularly as it was in the run up to Christmas when all should be sweetness and light.

I know just how you'll be feeling having experienced the passing of several of our dogs over the years.  They really are a part of the family and when they go, it's so terribly sad.

Our very best wishes to you and Shelagh.

Doug,
I am so sorry to hear about Bisto. Over our (nearly) 60 years of marriage we too have had to cope with this trauma on a number of occasions. Your moving description of scattering his ashes had me in tears. Our best wishes to you and Shelagh.

I’m so very sorry to hear your sad news Doug, as Bisto’s fame had spread throughout the forum and we’ve all felt his presence at your side over the years. Like John, Peter and many others, the bride and I have also lost much loved members of our small family over the decades, all still sadly missed but always remembered with happiness.

May you raise a glass of SLW to dear Bisto, who will still be at your side whenever you need him.

My condolences also. The joy of their presence far outweighs the sorrow of their passing… But it doesn’t help much at the time.
You did well by him.

Bravo.

Smooth sailing Bisto.

What a wrench it is when you lose a pet. After we had to have our old Yoshi put down, we said, no more. Here we are with a lovely Staffy that had no home to go to.

You never forget them, it just gets a bit easier over time.

Cheers Pete.

Hello Doug
I have tried ringing you and failed. I have sent you an email but it would not deliver it. My email address is derekcrofts@uwclub.net. Let's hope that the gremlins don't attack this!

Best wishes

Doug,Only just heard the news about Bisto. So sorry to hear that he's gone,he was so much more than just a pet and he was a much beloved mascot for all of us oldies in this group.I know how you must be feeling having had to have my old rescue dog Holly put down a couple of years back ,she was slowly dying in front of me and I was in total denial thinking she would rally and pull through. We had her for 16 years!

Thoughts with you both,God Bless and RIP Bisto! x
