I had my left kidney taken out a couple of years ago, due to a tumour. A couple of months ago my GP sent me for a blood test and then it all started happening. Turns out that the cancer which the surgeons thought had all gone with the kidney has metastasised and I now have stage 4 lung cancer. I've been told I have years rather than months, but last week I saw the oncologist and she said there's something going on with the liver. I've been on a drug called Panopazip which attacks cancer cells, but also gets stuck in to the normal white cells. She took me off the drugs for two weeks to see how it goes and hopefully it will have settled down a bit.

I'm still working on Wadebridge and have started to get a bit of a move on as I'd like to get it to a stage where I can put some decent pic's of it on the forum, so watch out for my progress.

Thanks Alan & John. I know some people are born worriers and they can't change, so I consider myself lucky that I'm not one of them. I've only just started the scenery and when things look a bit better I'll post those pic's

I feel for you Pete - it must be tough for you and yours and saying "chin up" just doesn't suffice.

I know the other members will join me in wishing you the very best of luck with whatever treatment they can offer and lets hope it can hold it at bay for as long as is humanly possible.

Hi Pete, you always manage to handle the good and not so good news with your usual frank honesty. This time you caught me unaware, as few of us more mature gentlemen like to think how we might handle the realisation that what we have will be the death of us. Black humour apart, I no longer fear reaching life’s final destination, but I’m not yet asking if we’re almost there yet and neither should you.

I sincerely hope you are still a great distance away and as you know, you have work to do, so enjoy building Wadebridge, as we’re watching and waiting for updates.

I’m not ready for scenery yet myself (still busy learning how to build locomotives) and indeed have much to learn with scenic work, so will be watching how you set about things.

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm not panicking Mr Mainwaring… not yet anyway. You all ready know that it's a slow growing type and that we're talking years rather than months.

I don't mind a bit of black humour and think it actually helps if you can laugh about these things. As the song go's: Always look on the bright side of life.

I've just received a bag of 4mm static grass, so hope to make a bit more scenery. Onwards and upwards, or in my case down to the heat.

and that is how I looked at it when my hip was giving me grief & other slight medical hiccups and I took solace in the fact that there are many far younger than me ( over 81) with worse problems.

Yep, no point worrying, just makes things worse.

While I've got you Sol: I can't post resized photo's using JPEG or GIF. I wrote to Petermac, but he might not have seen it yet, so I'd appreciate it if you could help.

Thanks. The cancer care people are really good, and I couldn't wish for better. In fact I've just thought to say that I spoke to a specialist about going private at great expense, and he said it would make no difference. There's new separate building dedicated to cancer care at the hospital and I feel well looked after.
