There's a thread on 'that other place' if anyone is interested.

Will Thomas fans be lured into Steam-Punk? Only time will tell, but 'that' model railway TV programme has a lot to answer for!

Edit: Just saw the price of a single Steampunk little person, nine quid each! Now that is a joke!!!

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

- no conflict with established market sectors
- utilises a lot of existing Hornby toolings so relatively low cost entry
- first mover advantage
- New sector appealing to a different generational group
- should generate positive cash flows….
Surely all positive for the existing RM sectors. Bravo for not throwing in the towel Hornby, when under siege from bold new entrants on your own territory.

I quite agree Colin. It might be a bit of a risk for Hornby, there may not be that many steampunk modellers, but I like the bold move to attract an untouched market. And if it helps to keep the company going…..Turn the idea around,

If they were to fold, modellers would be questioning why they didn't diversify and broaden the business base. It might not be my cup of tea, but then I am never buying a GWR or LMS or LNER engine either! Each to their own….

I may get a bag of steam punk bits from Micro Mark and do one for her. Bet this makes an appearance at Comic-Con this year. I remember some larger scale locomotives last year.

I'm fairly sure it would be situated in the USA.
I quite like this style too Rat Rodding - just a whim I have for odd things
Speaking of ODD I would love to have a go on this!

Check out "Zoelly locomotives" for real steampunk. Puts Hornby to shame.
Nigel
As a revisit to Munich's Deutsches Museum was already on my holiday itinerary this year, I'll add an original Zoelly multi-stage steam turbine machine to my list of things to search out. Looks like a fascinating beast.
Last time I could have done with some help as many interesting displays were only described in detail in German. I'm hoping for improvements this time round with a backstop of G00gle Translate
