More comfortable computer 'mousing'.

The hands are not what they used to be….No, not a lament by an irate bos'n, but a sad fact that as we get older our hands and wrists get stiffer and less dextrous.

In colder weather I can wear a cardigan to keep my lower arms off of the 30mm laminate worktop of my work station, but computer mousing still leaves me with a cold, stiff right hand/wrist.

Whilst having a clear-out last month I found some A4 sheets of 2mm thick foam, of the sort sold at Hobbycrap et al and I have cut out an opening that allows sufficient movement of a mouse within the opening so as to cover my screen satisfactorily, my wrist and uninvolved fingers and thumb  resting on it above the worktop.

I suppose it's nothing more than a slim-line mouse-mat, but it is not thick enoough to ruck up your shirt cuffs and it certainly is helping me, and may cut down the number of SLW tokens spent on Ibuleve Gel!

I agree Doug.

My right hand rebels after so long when using the mouse.  Sometimes it gets cold, other times it just seems to go into a cramp so I have to go and do something else until it eases.

I have a friend in UK who was a superb RC boat modeller.  Unfortunately, rheumatism in his hands forced him to stop.  He just couldn't bear them being constantly cold and wet standing on a lake side and lifting boats in and out of the water.

I hope your hands are not threatening your card modelling ………………….

Regards from France to you and the Station Mistress.

Hi Peter. Hi Mike,

Thanks for the replies. The problem is enough to make me changr course with my Scalescenes stuff [for the 2mm card] in that I am now trying 2mm balsa wood sheet which cuts far more easily. I need to improve because at least three S'Scenes models have failed 'The Stamp Test' despite my best efforts.

Mike, very snazzy!  I did have an ordinary mouse mat about 5-6mm thick, but as it is normally just to the right of my cutting mat the edge catches on anything long I am cutting as I swivel it about. The foam is thinner than my cutting mat so that isn't a problem at the moment.

Poop-poop!
