Hurrow!

There is an expression 'older and wiser' but it's not always proved true…This morning whilst manipulating 1 metre lengths of 0.7 mm piano wire for wire-in-tube point control I managed to stab myself in the corner of my eye despite wearing spectacles. A small hole very close to my eyeball, which bled for about 15 minutes.

I was trying not to cut off a length willy-nilly as I am short of it, so was flicking and twisting it about to mark the appropriate length before snipping it off.

When I start the next turnout I shall have a little bit of terminal strip fixed to the long end.

Those of you with a superfluity of unused brain cells and the memory of an elephant would think I would have learned not to be so stupid after the 'Gas lighter in the starboard lug'ole' episode a few years ago.

Any way let me take this opportunity to wish you all 'Season's Greetings', I will now have to put my British Rail uniform back in mothballs and go and take down my shrine to Commissar Corbyn. [It's in the outside privy].

Doug, the little terminal strip flicking around may knock you out …

Now this shrine - was it because you thought he was already "dead"  or that he may come "alive" ?

Sorry to hear about the eye Doug - they're precious things but I do understand your "it won't happen to me, I'm careful" attitude.  I have many scars that ought to have belonged to someone else !!!

Talking piano wire - did you ever find a supplier when you were here in France ?  I don't even know what they'd call it other than "fil dur" - "corde a piano" it certainly isn't !!!

I do have some in stock ……………………….. somewhere !!

And seasons greetings to you and the Station Mistress - hope you have a relaxing time and that you get that shining new Gresley A4 in your stocking …………………
