Between factory siding and adjacent track

I need to erect a fence or wall between the siding alongside the factory building and the adjacent track, I'll also be adding a gate across the rail coming into the siding.

The rest of the factory is enclosed by a brick wall except for the retaining wall at the top of the pic. So do I continue a brick wall or would a fence be more prototypical I suspect the answer could well be "whichever you want or have avaiable" - just thought I'd ask!

Once I've got whichever erected I can finish ballasting and generally cleaning up the area, It's only been like it since the beginnimng of June.

Hi Mike, just across from my house when i was a young boy there was a wall with railings on top. This was GWR,i don't know if region was a factor but it adds to your options.

I think it depends on the era you're after Mike, and how high you want it to be.

Walls tended to be more common when labour was cheap.  Security fencing is a fairly recent innovation. Post and rail fencing wouldn't be high enough, and "panel" fencing wouldn't look right to me.

I'd go for the wall but only if it's to screen the factory.  If it's a simple "border", then I'd probably go with post and rail fencing.

Mike ,it looks as though you have a wall to the right hand side separating the track there and the factory premises.
I think i would go for a wall to keep consistency to the factory area.  A few weeds and bushes against the wall trackside may be prototypical . I am sure it will look good whatever you decide.:thumbs

I would go for a fence.

My reasoning: A brick wall would be more in keeping with the factory style and existing walls but will also partially block your view of any stock in the siding. A fence or railings would be more 'see through' and allow you to better show off your models.

I think a wall would look great.

Part of my reason for asking was for the stock visibility aspect, the wall on the other sides is mainly for security, whereas the siding has 2 running lines then a retaining wall, the track visible in the bottom left corner of the pic being the approach to the terminus which is on the "high level" this pic may help put things in perspective

Ah . I can see where you mean now Mike .  I thought you meant between the siding and the factory, i did not read the post properly.    The second photograph is clearer to see the raised platform at the side of the  factory. .

Ah well then .You pays yer money to takes yer choice. :thumbs
