When giving advice, or replying to a query, it is all too easy, and I have done this myself many times, to assume that the person being advised has more knowledge than is the fact. I will give a couple of examples. You may be advising on sticking ballast down and being very careful about the method used, spraying, syringe, eye dropper, whatever, and then go on to say "using the usual mix of PVA and water". I know what you mean and most other modellers will but it's for sure that the beginner wont, so please add as much information as possible, even if you think it's common knowledge. Another one could be about scribing card, either for bending or adding detail. Most people will know what the word scribing means but the beginner will need detail about tools used and method.
None of the above is a complaint, far from it as I am well pleased at the way things are going but I'm sure all you modellers out there will understand my point.

Good point Bob.

All too often, I read an article (not necessarily on here) and wonder why the author assumes I know HOW to do something.  If I did, I probably wouldn't be reading the article.

We can all guess how to do something but the experienced modellers have wasted many hours and hard earned cash perfecting their way of doing things.  If it's not copyright, we'd love to learn from this experience.

I think you will find that all the regulars on here have got the point now Petermac and try to keep explanations at the simplest level. Maybe a bit frustrating sometimes but it's the best thing to do for most of us.
