I have a few "damaged/incomplete coaches in need of a replacement chassis.

Can anyone point me in the direction of potential suppliers, either RTR replacements, especially for old Mainline coaches and some kit built Gresley coaches.

If not RTR, then brass etches could tickle my fancy ……………….

There's any number of coach sellers online but I haven't had much success in finding just the chassis.

The Kirk coach kits have, amongst their offering, a Gresley bogie methinks.

The OO ones are now sold by CooperCraft I recall.

May be a possibility.

Ratio/Peco also make bogies for their ex-MR coaches that might fit the Mainline coaches (also LMS I recall).

CooperCraft failed as a business years ago, although the owner has failed to close the website which was still taking money for kits which never existed. Apparently the owner still sells whatever stock he has at selected exhibitions.

Otherwise, keep an eye out on ebay and perhaps set up an alert for any specific kits.

Cheers,

Bill

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

It's not the bogies I'm after Barry, it's the chassis - maybe I should have said "underframe"   .
I think Bachmann sell bogies - certainly they used to because I have several still in their plastic bags, both Gresley and Commonwealth versions ….. ;-)

Hi Peter,

Depends on how accurate you want them. Replica Railway in Swindon have Mk. 1 chassis that are suitable for modification with appropriate angle frames, battery boxes, etc.

Wizard have several frames (LNER, GNR) at 4 times the price of the Replica ones.

Dart Castings has a good range of LNER fixtures and fittings.

What damage do you have?

Like Nigel I was going to suggest Replica Railways. I have seen their stand at shows over the years, absolutely full of coach parts. According to their website their coaches and coach parts are made from the original Palitoy Mainline toolings.  Sounds like just what you need Peter.

Hi Peter,

Replica are focused on early BR and GWR stock. Similar to older Bachmann offerings (and using the same Mainline injection tools).

Thanks Terry and Nigel - Replica appear to do the Mainline chassis I need…… :hmm   I'll ask then see if they post to France then, once I'm sitting down, ask their postage rates.  I won't stand up again until the French Douane (Customs) have taken their slice ……………………..

To answer your question re the damage Nigel - the bogie mounting area at one end of the underframe has at some time, been cracked and, trying to fit a new bogie, I cracked it further ………………………..the end fell off ……….

I purchased this coach some time ago during my "online auction site" phase and this coach was part of the reason I stopped buying.  I had stuff delived to my brother in UK and collected it when I went over.  By then, any potential return was too late.  I only had 2 or 3 items which I'd have returned immediately but, as a couple were locos, I felt the pain.  :It's a no no

I also have some kit built Gresley teaks which I bought because I thought the teak finish looked excellent.  A couple require repairs to the underframe and one is missing a bogie so I may try a brass underframe kit for those……….
