Liskeard is the last (or first depending which way you are travelling!) principal station in Cornwall on the route from Penzance to London Paddington.  It is the junction for the Looe branch and has some interesting features as we shall see in the photos.

An HST125 arrives at Liskeard with the Cornish Riviera from Penzance to Paddington.  Picture taken from the footbridge - the arch bridge is the road over the station.

Looking towards Plymouth and London, the same train.  Note the somersault signal.  Just ahead of the lead power car is the connection to the Liskeard branch.  This is only used for ECS to access the branch as well as the occassional goods service.

Close up of the signal.  The main arm on the right is for the main route to Plymouth.  The subsidiary signal gives access to the

Looe branch.

Closer view of the branch connection.

The Freightliner service from Burngullow to Angerstein Wharf.

Closer view of the wagons in use as it passes.

Restrictions due to the gradients in Devon and Cornwall mean that the train is taken in two parts to Hackney Yard, Newton Abbot.  It is then combined and run as a single train to Angerstein.

A Plymouth to Penzance local service at that platform.

A Manchester bound Voyager arrives from Penzance.  Taken from the road bridge.

Looking the other way the same train is seen under the footbridge.

Another London bound HST shows the gradient approaching Liskeard.

Liskeard is set on the top of a hill and is approached by two high viaducts on each side.

The train now standing in the platform is at the summit.

Another Penzance bound local approaches Liskeard over the viaduct on the London side.  The line to Looe passes below this viaduct (out of sight in this picture)
