This is not the original station. Previously the line crossed the main road and a two platform affair served the needs of Gunnislake. This was closed and the station relocated to enable the low bridge over the road to be removed.
When built by the Plymouth, Devonport and South Western Junction Railway the line from Bere Ferrers to Gunnislake continued on to serve Chilsworthy, Luckett and Callington. This section was closed on 5th November 1966, having opened in March 1908 under the command of one Colonel Stephens!
