Barnstaple Station.

Copyright Stephen Parker :-

In this shot Class 118 DMU number P460 arrives at Barnstaple with a service from Exeter St Davids.

The photographer has turned through 180degrees and taken the same unit as it continues into the platform.

The lines to the island platform can still be seen and were at this time still available for loco-hauled passenger or goods services to run around.

The unit has now come to a stand in the platform and the route beyond to Torrington can be seen clearly.  This went below the overbridge on the left.  The route to Ilfracombe went through the overbridge to the right which is not clearly visible but can just be seen.

The unit now departs with a service to Exeter St Davids again.  Note the starting semaphore signal on the right and half way down the post is the smaller shunt signal which is also off.  If the train was only carrying out a shunt move of some sort then the main signal arm would remain on and only the shunt signal arm would be off.

The photographer again turns through 180degrees to give another view of the route towards Exeter St Davids with more of the platforms in view.
