Where are My Topics?

My Topics button shows all of Ed's topics!

When I click on the 'My Topics' button, I only see a page of topics created by Ed of this forum!  Should the button be re-named 'Ed's Topics? :P

Hi Terry

It does seem like Ed has some magical power when it comes to that button - is that via PC or Mobile? I'm going to need to set aside some time to investigate that feature.

Try using this form that Martin Wynne kindly set up Terry.

Just put you user id in the Author/Submitter field, scroll down and click 'search content'.

Also worth noting there's a search button in the top right in case you lose that link at anytime - just type your username and hit search and you will get to that form.

Hi Jay,

I did tell you what the problem is several weeks ago.

The URL contains the parameter

Code

author=

It takes the USER NAME in text:

Code

author=Martin+Wynne

Then it works fine.

Your URL has the user ID instead of the name. In my case it comes up as author=160 – which gives me Ed's topics.

cheers,

Martin.

You did, unfortunately that's not how this case works, the link is being generated using system parameters using the cms built in variables, there is a variable called member I'd which is being passed into the link and is not passing the correct value. User name is not a unique value in the DB and can be changed hence user ID number is the unique value.

The issue is that at some point the variable is picking up the wrong ID, I suspect its because that variable is at times used for doing searches or viewing someone else's profile and isn't guaranteed to always hold "logged on  user"

I just haven't had the time to hunt down the correct paramter for current logged in user.

Hi,

I have just tried 'My Topics' and got approx. 17 topics from Breakage, who had written the previous tropic, which I had looked at.

Cheers,

Thanks, I was worried that would be the case. I'll keep looking into it.

Okay, I think I'm going to just have to ditch that button and implement a shot cut search instead.

I'll add it to the list.

Mr no idea here. Martin's method uses The user name. Your working with the user ID number because that won't change even if their  user name gets changed but at the moment gremlins are stopping it working properly. Is Martin's method using the user name giving more consistent results ? Or are BOTH giving random results. If using user name IS giving correct results, Is it worth going with THAT method  for now ? Until you get a chance to work on getting consistent  results using ID number ?  I know this would cause an issue if a user name gets changed, but that doesn't  happen very often tbh and we would be aware of the issue if it DOES happen ? It's more likely a NEW member who needs a user name change, and tbh they would have started very few topics anyway.

Am I talking complete spherical dangly bits ?
