Another one for Chris

Potters lane is almost finished with the only area left to do is the exit from the yard to the main line. Here's a pic of the area in question..

The line in the centre is the bay platform. Origanaly this was to be used by single car (153) or small dmu's (142,etc) for local services but I then thought about using it as a storage siding for the depot as basicly I couldn't be chewed building another signal! The point of the right is the line from the shed to the main line with the tamper standing on the headshunt. Now its asumed that the headshunt goes under the bridge to join the potteries loop line thus giving access to the shed from the loopline without trains using the main line tracks. Now my headache here is the signaling as I want it to look right but im unsure about signal placement? For the bay platform I might build a small two aspect signal that would give access to the main line but the other track I think will need some ground signals of some discription? Now this is taken further back showing the track from the shed..

I have decided that the three points that make up the depot yard will be hand opperated with the point at the bottom of the pic being one of them. Now if I use a ground signal to give access to the main line would it (A) be placed next to the short section of track by the bridge (B) be on the left or right hand side of the track and (C) Have the arrow on the signal pointing towards the main line and only show the two white lights when set in that direction. Just to complicate things further would there be a normal signal or ground signal next to where the tamper is parked for trains coming towards the shed.  Untill I get this last headache sorted I carn't finish balasting the track so any help apreciated. :thumbs

Sorry for the delay, I have been away with Bachmann working on some of my projects and had no internet access since Saturday.

The line the tamper is in would need a ground signal to control exits from the yard.

The other point would need a ground signal with a route indicator above, to give the route to the tamper siding or the loop line.  It would probably be placed to the right for driver sighting but you could probably get away with to the left.

If you want to do away with the route indicator you would need a ground signal showing one yellow and one white light for when the points are set to the tamper siding, and two white lights for when the points are set to the loop.  You would still need the ground signal in the tamper siding whichever option you choose.

Cheers Chris I thought that you might be away somewhere. The ground signal with the yellow/white option will be easer to build than the route indicator version so I will go with that one and place it on the right of the track. I will place a normal red/white one on the line coming the other way. The jury is still out with regards to the bay platform as I carn't fit a pacer in there so I will have another rethink about that one. :thumbs
