A small section of my layout requires a short row of low-relief terraced houses on a slight incline.

Sounds simple eh ?  Believe me, it isn't as easy as one would think.  I had planned to use Scalescenes terraces and put a small step between each pair.  That would probably have worked but then DaveH_Murcia from this parish was apparently having exactly the same thoughts.

Enquiries revealed he was using a laser cutting machine and maths way beyond my 1+1 mental limit.  He very kindly offered to produce a kit of houses tailor made for my situation.

Not too long afterwards, Postie delivered a large box packed full of goodies - a row of 6 twin terraced houses in kit form made from laser cut MDF to fit my slope perfectly.

Each kit "pair" is packed in its own envelope and duly marked from "Bottom" to "Top" with numbered pairs in between to ensure each fits its pre-designed place in the row.

Each envelope contains the parts to build a pair of houses :

Once I had digested Dave's assembly instructions together with his diagrams identifying the parts, it all begins to take shape.  This carcase is half built and almost ready to glue to its neighbour :

Dave kindly included ready-cut brick and tile papers in the kits so all I have to source are the windows and doors.

Many thanks indeed Dave - I'm enjoying the build and they're turning out to be very accurate strong houses.  :thumbs

Tune in soon for the next thrilling installment of "Peter's Row of Ascending Terraces" …………………or "PRAT" for short … :cheers

Hi Peter and good to see that someone is doing some actual modelling round here.

Please don’t struggle uphill though, try from the other end and you’ll soon whizz down sans problème.

Also top marks to Dave on the design and manufacturing front.

It’s been bitterly cold here this past week or more, but it's now just above zero during the day, so a little work done on the layout.

Keep warm.

Best,

Bill

At 6'4'', Bill is a tall chap, then again, when horizontal he is rather long and people often used to trip over him! . . . and so a nickname was born :)

Unfortunately Bill, I started the terrace at the wrong end so have to go uphill …….. :mutley

I said it was cut from MDF but in fact, I think it's card but fairly high quality card.  Certainly a better grade than the grey board I use for my Scalscenes kits.

The weather has been pretty grim here too for the last couple of weeks.  From the forecast, it seems we have a couple of days let-up then back to negative night time temperatures until about the end of the month.  I think we've been spoilt over the last couple of winters or so ………………… :hmm

Hope you're keeping warm - thank heavens for our big woodburner - we've already burnt Great Birnam Wood and are now rapidly heading up Duncinane Hill still with another couple of months to go this winter.   :cool wink   It's labour intensive but least the oil tank is still 3/4 full !
