Narrow masking tape

Hi All.   My hands are not very steady at the moment. And I would like to spray a positive image (meaning on the  Reverse side avoiding the design, with a painted background ) I require narrow  masking tape on clear plastic.I have purchased the plastic , but don’t know a stockist of narrow masking tape. Would one of you fine Modellers be able to assist me please?   Best wishes. Kevin

Hi Kevin,

3M Fineline. You can get thinner, Comet Models  coach roof lining is about 1mm. Try the car accessory shops for pinstripe lining and masking tape.

Hi Nigel.   Thank you.  I will visit the local car accessory outlet, meanwhile I have lots to do elsewhere , on my other plank.    Best wishes. Kevin

Hi John.   After a lot of faffing around on my iPad this morning, I was getting fed up with it. And I went out, on what could be the hottest day of the year so far? After a Cook’s tour , I found some at my local  Halfords , from Harris but it is a bit wider @ 6m,, but it is nearer to the size of my plan. Best wishes.  Kevin

IMO the best masking tape for modelling is from Tamiya, available from most good model shops, hobbycraft and online.

6mm wide, a roll is usually around £2.50/£3.00 mark but worth it.

They do other sizes including a 2mm wide one for doing curves.

Hi Andy.   After applying the tape that I purchased in Halfords (correct or not?)  I sprayed it with Halfords grey primer, the one meant for plastic. I removed the tape successfully , but, the plastic was too clear for my liking, so I am going to paint a bright top coat, and hope it looks more like a signalmans Panel . Best wishes. Kevin
