I know exactly what you mean!!  He does great videos but after 35 years in education, it just proves that showing someone how to do something does not mean that they can do it themselves!

That said, you might be making slow progress, but it is progress and looks great! It will be well worth the effort and a change from plastic fencing.

With the proof of concept done, I can actually do this. Time to ramp it up…

Roughly painted matchsticks followed by a dry brush of lighter brown.

Made a little jig so I don't have to use the tape measure and cut and drilled many sticks.



The the fun bit of threading the little wire though and drilling a hole in the sculptamould every 2.5cms.



And there you have it my first hand made fence!

Well done. Looks great.If you intend doing anymore might I suggest that Upgrading the jig to a metal on with guide holes for the drill might help.

Matchsticks? Uh-oh. Aren't they square? Most railways in the interests of economy used to saw old sleepers in half to give nominal 5x4 or 6x4. And used them as fenceposts. Came across some a few years ago on the old B&CDR with the bolt holes and chair impressions still in place. Gable tops. Plus a few 45 degree supports as well, especially at corners. GWR in the West would have had bridge or Barlow rail sections at strategic places. Came across a photo recently of track laying at High Wycombe where railing fencing made from old boiler tubes was being installed.

Nice fencing though, looks the business.

Interesting to know for other areas of the layout.  This is farmer Jacks fence for his field, he just went with the 'matchsticks' he had lying around his yard  ;-)
