Those photos take me back to my youth although that's quite a small threshing machine. 

It says it's a "reeding machine". I'm not really sure what that does and, looking at the state of the straw trusses coming out of the back of the thing, they wouldn't be much good for thatching !!! :shock::shock:

I wonder if they were driving it from a steam traction engine or a diesel tractor…….:roll::roll:  The former could be a nightmare in terms of the fire risk.

As a "lad" we got "men's wages" for a threshing day because you did a man's job.  My first day on the corn end (carrying 16 stone sacks of grain up steps into a granary on your shoulders) paid £3.10s for the day - nearly a whole week's wages in those days for an agricultural student.
