Here In Australia we have Agnew's Water Putty which is identical to the American product Durham's Water Putty. My question , If I used it on the bottom of my river would it be better than plaster or will it allow medium to leak through, I wish to have my river bottom something like this photo, Thanks Jeff.

Hi Jeff,

What 'medium' are you thinking about using for water ? What I would suggest is to have a look over Marty's thread, 'A Tale Of Three Rivers', very informative.

Cheers, Gary.

Gary,

This is in relation to the "Water Effects" only guys….

Checked out 4 Bunnings Stores here in Adelaide over that past few days and they don't stock the 2 pack resin any more.
The Bunnings closest by said that they hadn't stock it for well over 3 years.

May have to check your local Suppliers, they may have some or something that will suffice..

Bought some Woodland Scenic's "Realistic Water" and this is readily available at all hobby shops here in Adelaide, that will do the "water" area's of my layout.

Here is it via U-Tube.

Or for the Durhams Water Putty; A variety of links:

Sorry Gary, I was thinking of using Acrylic glazing liquid as my water medium with blue and green paint splodged underneath. [ see photo]

I have decided to use plaster for my river base [ just because I already have some and my money tree died] and then to seal it with a good coating of PVA.
What do you think ?
Thanks for the top info Alan.  Jeff.

Hi Jeff,

For a small creek bed/river, do you think blue/green is realistic..? I would probably go for a light brown/tannin colour base with the clear over the top. The photo you posted and associated video (Mod Podge) is an excellent tutorial. Mod Podge is available online at ; http://www.craftonline.com.au/shopping/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=3940 and only $7.50 + postage.

There is another product  'Gesso', available at Spot Light stores. My wife suggested this as it is quite similar to Mod Podge.

Cheers, Gary.

Thanks for the ideas Gary, will work fine for the upper level of the river, but the lower section below the weir on the right has a 1/8" section that would take many many layers to fill, what do you suggest. Jeff.
